Black Sheep Coffee Makes U.S. Debut in Dallas

Black Sheep Coffee’s first US store will open in East Dallas in June 2023. Founders plan expansion to Phoenix, Austin, Atlanta, and Miami according to a Dallas Morning News article. They say,

“When Black Sheep Coffee makes the leap from its home city of London to the United States, the first shop to open stateside will be on Mockingbird Lane in East Dallas.

“Usually, companies that are successful in the U.K. always open in New York,” says co-founder Gabriel Shohet on a video call in late January 2023 from London. “We looked at all the data and we felt like, actually, Texas is on the rise of all states in the U.S.”

“Everybody seemed to be moving to Texas.”

Shohet, too, will eventually move to the United States — though probably not to Texas. Once Black Sheep gets established in East Dallas after an expected June 2023 opening, Shohet and Black Sheep co-founder Eirik Holth are planning to expand the company to parts of Phoenix, Austin, Atlanta and Miami.”

Shohet and Holth focus on specialty coffee, while aiming to bring it to the mass market, providing inclusive options according to a CultureMap Dallas article which say,

“Shohet and Holth built the company brick by brick, starting out doing pop-ups before moving into brick-and-mortar locations. Their goal is to break the wall between specialty coffee and the mass market.

“We’ve always been about the coffee,” he says. “We source the beans from plantations in southern India, Papua New Guinea, Brazil. We get the best beans in the world: specialty-grade, shade-grown, and hand-picked.”

“But our premise was also, How can we bring great quality coffee to the mass market, by providing the best coffee but not making people feel like they’re disturbing the coffee sacks?” he says. “Our baristas know their coffee, but if you just want to get your drink quickly and want caramel syrup, then go for it. We make it inclusive.”

By the end of 2023, Black Sheep Coffee will have about 130 stores worldwide. They plan to open four stores in Dallas and Austin, with the first Dallas location opening in June 2023.
