Luka Doncic Meets Make-A-Wish Teenager

Before Luka Doncic and the Mavericks went head to head against the Utah Jazz, Doncic made some time to meet a 16 year old Frisco Teenager Callum Stewart from Make-A-Wish according to a Dallas Morning News article from March 27. They say,

“Callum knew that Luka Doncic was coming. After all, it was part of Callum’s request, through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, as a big Mavericks fan. It was just last December that Callum was diagnosed with lymphoma, but Callum’s request was categorized as a rush wish.

Knowing that Doncic was coming, however, didn’t lessen the awe and delight on the faces of Callum and his parents, Neil and Julia, when Doncic entered the small waiting area and warmly greeted Callum.

“I didn’t know it was going to be such a big deal,” an emotional Julia said, looking around the court. “It’s kind of taking my breath away.”

However, it wasn’t just Luka who was able to meet Callum Stewart as the Mavericks team themselves took some time after the game to spend time with Stewart according to a Mavs article from March 31 which reports,

“Callum Stewart and Maxi Kleber. The two laugh and joke about Stewart’s passion for wrestling.

Dorian Finney-Smith asks Callum for advice on how he can improve his 3-point shot and the two joke about his performance after the game.

Callum Stewart and Dwight Powell. Callum said that Powell is one of his favorite players. The Mavs’ big man loves to meet children and teens just like Callum. A few years ago, the NBA veteran established the Dwight Powell Children and Family Support Fund at UT Southwestern. The cause provides resources to help patients and their children cope with cancer. Callum and Powell discussed the game and some of the teen’s passions.

Callum Stewart and Jalen Brunson. Stewart said that Jalen Brunson is one of his favorite players on the team. “We’re always thinking of you, buddy,” Brunson told him. “Thank you for spending your night with us! Hopefully we made you proud.”

Mark Cuban also participated in the jolly event and shot some baskets in the court with Steward and posed for a photo with Steward and his entire family.
