Despite the unfavorable weather, Hattie B’s Hot Chicken from Tennessee, opened its doors to patient but hungry customers according to a Dallas Morning News article from February 24. They say,
“Hattie B’s Hot Chicken, a long-awaited, fan-followed fried chicken restaurant from Nashville, opened at 11 a.m. Feb. 23, 2022 in Deep Ellum. A few brave souls stood outside in the 25-degree weather waiting for the doors to open, a signal that this food is still worth standing in line for, even on a frigid Texas morning.
Hattie B’s is one of Dallas’ most anticipated restaurants of the year. (It was actually one of the most anticipated restaurant openings of 2021, but the opening was pushed into 2022.)
Nashville hot chicken has been sold in Tennessee for a century; Prince’s Hot Chicken was one of the first. Hattie B’s is a much newer company that’s growing modestly among Southern states. When a new restaurant opens in Atlanta in summer 2022, it’ll be the family’s 10th Hattie B’s restaurant in 10 years.
Here in Dallas, hot chicken restaurants are nothing new, ever since two-dozen of them flooded the market in the past two years. But, as Hattie B’s co-founders point out, most did not originate in Nashville, the home of hot chicken.”
The restaurant will be the first not just in Deep Ellum but in all Texas and to celebrate that exclusive items will be available for all Texans according to a Dallas Eater article from February 23 which states,
“This is Hattie B’s first location in Texas, and there’s even a new menu item specific to Dallas: fried dill pickles with Hattie B’s hot spices. Today during the opening, score free chips with dill pickle seasoning.
The rest of the menu is the same as other locations. Popular items include the “1/2 bird plate” including a breast, thigh, leg & wing served with two sides like pimento mac and cheese and collard greens, bread, and pickles for $14. The spice level here runs from Southern (no heat) to “Shut the Cluck Up” levels of heat.
There are expanded boozy options at the Deep Ellum location too. Several batch cocktails will be on tap, as will white wine and sparkling white wine. Other alcoholic options include frozen cocktails with rum, vodka, and whiskey.”
Hattie B’s Hot Chicken is expecting a huge boom from its first branch and as such, they are already looking for a second location somewhere North.
