An increase was seen in the number of dogs in the Dallas Animal Services but they are running out of room according to an Axios Dallas article from June 7. They say, 

“Dallas Animal Services is again desperate for people to adopt and foster animals, especially medium to large dogs.

The shelter posted a 35-minute Facebook live this weekend introducing viewers to dogs desperate for homes.

The shelter has “several dozen dogs” receiving treatment for upper respiratory infections and there is limited kennel space for those animals separated from the rest.

And, DAS had its first case of distemper in November. Since then 1.4% of its dogs have tested positive for the contagious disease, according to a shelter spokesperson.”

Dallas Animal Services is inviting and encouraging people to help them with the dogs which are already neutered, vaccinated and microchipped according to an NBC 5 DFW article from July 1 which reports, 

“If you would like to adopt, we encourage you to visit one of our locations in person today rather than apply online,” said Webber. “The online process typically takes a few days to complete and right now, every minute counts.”

Currently, all DAS pets are free to adopt and come spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Adoption includes a voucher for a free veterinary visit.

DAS offers daily in-person adoptions inside its main shelter at 1818 N. Westmoreland Road and at its PetSmart Everyday Adoption Center located at 16821 Coit Road.

Dallas Animal Services’ business hours are Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.”

Accordingly, there is also a virtual application that can be done by interested residents for a convenient accommodation and application for adopting dogs.
