A million glasses for Dallas’ Solar Eclipse

Perot Museum of Nature and Science is getting ready for the once in a lifetime solar eclipse and they are giving out one million glasses to Dallas students according to a Dallas Morning News article. They say,

“Dallas is the largest city in the path of totality for the Great North American Eclipse, according to the Perot Museum.

At least 14 area school districts will receive glasses, including Dallas ISD, Lewisville ISD, Richardson ISD, Mansfield ISD, Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, Allen ISD, Grapevine-Colleyville ISD and Alvarado ISD. Districts will decide which schools receive the glasses and how many.

In the coming weeks, TECH trucks and educators from the Perot Museum will also distribute eclipse glasses at dozens of community events across North Texas, according to the museum.”

The awaited event is considered to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience to students and that is precisely why the museum and the independent school districts like Denton ISD are preparing the students according to a Kera News article. In it they say,

“This eclipse is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for North Texans, but it’s one that requires a little bit of planning to be able to do it safely,” said Dr. Linda Silver, the Eugene McDermott CEO of the museum. “Through our distribution of a million free safety glasses, including to all the students in Denton ISD, we’ve helped do some of that planning ahead of time to ensure members of our community can look to the sky and bear witness to a phenomena that won’t be seen here again until 2317.”

A spokesman for the Perot Museum said the organization is funding the glasses through a grant. The Denton ISD donation is valued at $15,000.”

The museum will also sell these eclipse glasses in its gift shops. Those interested in purchasing bulk orders are welcome to do so. For visitors however, they won’t be needing to buy as they will be receiving a complimentary pair of the glasses!
