Asel Art Supply to Close All Stores By the End of 2022

Another proud and iconic business is closing after 71 years of business and it is Asel Art Supply which has announced that it is shutting its doors according to a Dallas Morning News article.  They say,

“A Dallas-Fort Worth staple for art supplies is shutting its doors after 71 years in business.

Asel Art Supply Inc. told its Facebook and Instagram followers that Dec. 31 will be its last day in business. It has six remaining locations.

Asel had already closed its original location on Cedar Springs Road in September. Owners had decided to close the 100-year-old building that has housed the store since 1968 after receiving a generous offer on the property from the owners of the popular Katy Trail Ice House.”

Asel Art Supply originally started small back in 1951 in Dallas and the years followed allowed to become the benchmark for artists across the state according to a Glasstire article which reports,

“Originally founded in 1951 in Dallas by Kenny Asel, Asel Art Supply has been a longtime staple for artists across the state. In the mid-1960s, a second Dallas location was opened. Mr. Asel and his brother, Herb, oversaw the business until 1973, when they sold the company to a group of investors. In the mid-1970s, the business expanded with locations in San Antonio, Arlington, Fort Worth, Austin, and Lubbock (as Varsity Bookstore, a college bookstore serving Texas Tech University).”

Asel Art Supply has put everything in their store at 40% off to clear its shelves.
